Tompkins Bank of Castile Gives Back with Banksgiving
Giving back to the communities it serves is at the heart of everything Tompkins Bank of Castile does, especially during the holidays. For Thanksgiving 2020—in lieu of Tompkins’ longstanding annual apple donations for clients at its branches—bank leaders decided to respond to the needs of customers facing hard times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
That’s how Banksgiving was born. Tompkins celebrated its inaugural Banksgiving campaign by donating $7,500 to several local food pantries, churches and school districts throughout Western New York to provide meals for those in need. With so many people out of work and long lines for food distribution, the nonprofit organizations were delighted to receive the much-needed support.
McDougall Communications helped to promote the effort among regional media outlets, while providing ongoing recommendations for Tompkins' social media strategy. In a live interview on 13 WHAM’s “Good Day Rochester,” Tompkins President and CEO John McKenna said, “This is a great way to help those that need it right now, especially with what we’re seeing these days, it’s going to be a difficult season for a lot of people, so we’re more than happy to help.”
Tompkins selected 15 organizations that deliver meals across Rochester, Buffalo and the Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming county (GLOW) region to help the communities the bank serves. The response was so favorable, Banksgiving may become an annual event!
