Two Social Initiatives Turn Spotlight on Masking and Voting

ROCHESTER, N.Y., October 20, 2020—Rochester-based public relations and reputation management firm McDougall Communications is calling on businesses and organizations to take simple steps toward civic responsibility through two new initiatives.
Its contribution to the #MaskMonday movement asks brands to temporarily apply a face mask to their logos for use on social media and other digital platforms, calling attention to the public and personal health benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Altering a logo—especially one that’s well-known—is typically a non-starter for most organizations, since it can affect brand recognition and throw a wrench into ongoing programs. Yet that’s the point for #MaskMonday. We are sending a message that it’s OK to do what’s inconvenient and cumbersome for the greater good,” said Mike McDougall, APR, Fellow PRSA, the firm’s president.

The company has also joined the Time to Vote movement (maketimetovote.org), becoming one of 1,500 corporations nationwide aiming to increase participation in elections. Led by the business community, the nonpartisan initiative encourages giving employees access to early voting or vote-by-mail options, offering paid time off on Election Day and more. Other participants include Levi Strauss & Co., The Kraft Heinz Company, Domino’s and Kaiser Permanente.
This year, McDougall Communications has designated November 3 as a paid company holiday, providing the greatest possible opportunity for employees cast their ballots, volunteer as poll workers, and participate in get out the vote activities.
“Sometimes the most effective approaches to community impact can be the simplest—a concept that we try to employ not only in our social responsibility efforts, but for clients year-round,” said McDougall.
